General Questions

What is Songrila?
Songrila is a decentralized music selling system which enables the selling of music through Songrila Players anywhere on the internet. Music uploaded on Songrila can be presented using the Songrila system on any site in the internet, from where it can then be sold or bought directly.

How do I benefit as artist or band from a Songrila Player?
With the Songrila Player you can place your tracks on any site on the internet, where they can be listened to and sold directly to your fans. The Songrila Player can be integrated in all web pages where you have access to the source code (e.g. your own Homepage, a host of Community and Socializing Pages such as Facebook, Twitter, your Blog, fan sites, etc.).

Who can embed Songrila Players on their websites?
Basically anyone can embed one or several Songrila Players on their website. The only condition is that you have access to the source code of the site (as, for example, your own Homepage, a host of Community and Socializing sites, Blogs, etc.). As Sales Partner of Songrila you can earn money as well if someone buys a song from a Player you have embedded. To do this, register as Songrila Sales Partner and use your Sales Partner login to select Songrila Players which match the appropriate music taste of the visitor to your sites.

How can I add a Songrila Player to my Homepage?
There are several ways to add a Songrila Player to your Homepage. Generally, you can add any Player you see on a website to your own Homepage, Community Page, etc. To do this, click on the text Embed Player To Your Site in this Player (on the bottom left), mark the code, copy it using CONTR + C and add it using STRG + V to the place in the source text of your page where you want it to appear. As artist/band or Label you can compile Players with your songs/albums yourself, in your User Account, and distribute them in the internet. The more sites there are with your embedded Players, the higher your sales will be. As Sales Partner you can use your Sales Partner account to select Players that match the taste of the visitors to your sites, and subsequently install them on your sites. As Songrila Sales Partner you additionally earn from every sale of the tracks on the Players you have placed.

You can embed the Songrila Player in every website where you have access to the source code. Particularly suitable in this respect are Community and Socializing sites like Twitter, your Homepage, your Blog or Fan sites.

Who can buy music through Songrila?
Anyone can buy music with Songrila. Currently we support more than 160 countries.

Are there any costs for me to pay when I register with Kazzon as consumer?
No! Registration as consumer with Songrila is absolutely free of charge. You only have to pay something if you buy a song.

Why do I need an additional account with PayPal to purchase music through a Songrila Player?
Songrila uses the PayPal system to implement the payment transaction of your purchase. When you purchase a song on Songrila, PayPal takes over the payment collection for us. At Songrila we then receive the money you paid for the purchase of the song from PayPal to pay the artists. PayPal does not cost you anything. The service of PayPal facilitates the payment procedure considerably and you are given a variety of options on how to pay through PayPal (Bank transfer, credit card etc.). You can also pay for a host of other internet services through a PayPal account. For further information on our partner PayPal see PayPal-Homepage.

Can I purchase music through Songrila without a PayPal account?
No, this is not possible at the moment. To buy music from a Songrila Player you need a PayPal account. There are no charges for a PayPal account. A PayPal account is absolutely free and the setting up of such an account /(if you do not already have one) is integrated in the registration process, which is easily and conveniently opened with a few clicks.

When I click on Select all tracks in a Player, a different total appears than the sum of the prices for the individual tracks in the Player. Why is this?
The holders of rights in the Songrila system can define albums and set special prices for these, which may differ from the sum for the individual songs. If you mark all songs in a Songrila Player and get a different price to the total retail price for the individual songs in the Player, the rights holder has defined the songs as an album in his or her Songrila Player. The album prices are cheaper than the purchase of the individual tracks on the album.

What is the file format of the songs available on Songrila?
The songs available on Songrila are in MP3 format. The songs are not protected with a DRM system and you can therefore use them without any restriction. This means that you can use the purchased songs on a number of devices (computer, MP3 player, etc.) and make as many CD copies as you wish. To ensure the best quality only MP3 files with a bit rate of min. 192 kbit/s CBR or 112-192 kbit/s VBR, a sample rate of 44,100 Hz and the channels Stereo or Joint-Stereo can be sold on Songrila.

Do the songs on Songrila have copy protection?
No! The songs on Songrila Players do not have copy protection (DRM) and you can therefore use them without any restrictions. This means you can play the songs you have purchased on a number of devices (Computer, MP3-Player, etc.) and make as many CD copies as you wish.

Selling Music

Who can upload music on Songrila and sell it through Songrila Players?
Generally anyone can upload music on Songrila, who is in possession of the exploitation rights for the songs to be uploaded.

Important: If as artists/band you have handed over exclusive exploitation rights to a Label or have your songs digitally marketed exclusively by a Content Aggregator, please first consult your Label or Content Aggregator and ask them to install your content on Songrila. After their application and the upload of their tracks they can then set up a Subaccount for you. With this Subaccount you can create Songrila Players yourself and place them on websites relevant to you. We would be pleased to contact your Label/Content Aggregator for you. Just send an e-mail naming your contact partner at your Label/Content Aggregator to [email protected].

Are my songs that I sell through Songrila with copy protection?
No! The songs that are sold through Songrila Players do not have copy protection (DRM). When a customer buys your music he or she can use it on any number of devices (Computer, MP3-Player, etc.) and make any number of copies on CDs. The probability that your songs are with him/her all the time is very likely due to there being no copy protection!

Can I register as a Label with Songrila and embed my content on Songrila?
Yes, this is possible. You can register under www.songrila.com/join/Labels/ and upload the content of your artists

Does the Label account have a different function to the artist/band account?
The Label account has additional functions to the artist/band account, which have been aligned to the specific requirements of Labels. With a Label account you can, for example, load your songs/albums in large quantities onto our server through an import interface using FTP (File-Transfer-Protocol). In contrast to the artist/band account you can upload up to 10,000 songs. Also with a Label account you can create so-called Subaccounts. Using Subaccounts you can automatically send your artists/bands access data to Songrila by e-mail. Your artists/bands can then, with this access data, independently compile Songrila Players and sell their songs on the internet (e.g. on their artist's homepage). Using Subaccounts four your artists/bands you achieve the best possible distribution of your songs/albums, as these can then be installed in a large number of Songrila Players on the internet sites relevant for the fans. The more Songrila Players presenting your songs, the greater your sales will be!

Can I register as Content Aggregator with Songrila and install the content of my artists on Songrila?
Yes, this is possible. If you a Content Aggregator interested in selling your content via Songrila please contact us using the Contact Form. We will then contact you as quickly as possible to discuss the details.

Can I, as Label/Content Aggregator offer all my artists the possibility to install Songrila Players on their websites?
Yes, this is possible. In your user area you can set up so-called Subaccounts for your artists. Your artists will then receive access data automatically by e-mail with which they can compile Songrila Players independently for their own websites and install these on the Band homepage, for example. Using Subaccounts you achieve the best possible distribution of your songs/albums as these can be placed in many Songrila Players of the relevant websites for the fans.

As holder of rights who can I sell my tracks to?
Currently it is possible to sell tracks to all consumers within the European Union, Switzerland and USA as long as you are in possession of the necessary exploitation rights for the individual countries. We undertake to include other countries in the Songrila system in the short term and will keep you informed on this progress.

Is it possible for me to release my content for certain countries only?
Yes, this is possible. Using your user login, at the individual song level, you can select the individual countries for which you have the exploitation rights.

In my account, how can I add songs from the All my Tracks summary view to a playlist?
To add individual songs from the My Tracks summary to a playlist you must click on the songs that are to appear in the playlist so that there is a tick in front of the title. Then select a playlist which is later to contain the desired tracks. By clicking on the Add button at the end of the My Tracks summary the tracks you have selected are added to the chosen playlist.

In the My Tracks summary, I cannot highlight some of the songs I have uploaded and add them to playlists. Why is this?
After you upload a song you must first complete the page Process Song. You must do this first to enable you to add the song to Songrila Players. You can reach the page Process Song via the My Tracks summary. Here you must click on the Process icon.

Can I put individual songs in several playlists?
Yes, this can be done without difficulty. You can add the track to as many playlists you like.

How can I compile an album from the songs I have uploaded?
Every song in the Songrila system can be put into an album. To make an album you must first click under My Songrila on New Album and enter the data requested. Now on the page Process Song (My Tracks summary) you can put the individual songs into an album. If you specified an album during the upload, the album is created immediately with the given name. However, you still have to complete the required data in the album (My Songrila summary, Process button behind the title of the album in the box My Albums).

Why can I only put one song in one album and not in several?
The information that says which song belongs to which album is stored in the song. In future it will be possible to save song-specific information such as the cover for the matching album. The only disadvantage here is that you have to upload a song twice in order to put it into two albums, for example. As an alternative you can also create a playlist. You can put the songs you have uploaded into as many playlists as you like.

Can I show albums as well as those individual songs which don't belong to the album together in one Player?
No, this function is not available. We are working on it and will provide this features as soon as possible. At the moment you can offer the songs of an album as individual tracks on one Player. The consumers can then choose whether they want to buy an individual track from your album or the whole album. For the album you can, of course, ask a different price than the sum of the prices for the individual tracks (e.g. 15 songs in an album at a retail price of EUR 0.99 per track, and an album price of EUR 9.99).

Can I freely choose the prices for my albums and tracks?
Yes, you recommend a price to us for your songs. This is where Songrila uses a price unit concept. You can recommend a price unit in which you would like to sell the song . You can, for example, give your songs a uniform price or put each track in a different price unit. It's entirely up to you! You can also recommend separate unit prices for albums. The amount credited to you by Songrila varies, of course, depending on the unit prices you select.

What consequences does it have for me, as rights holder, if I provide a general release of my Players for Sales Partners?
If you provide a general release of the Players you have created, Sales Partners of Songrila can pick Players created by you and put them on their homepage. This is advantageous for you because the more places on the internet where your tracks can be heard, the more songs you will sell. For this reason it is very sensible to release your Players for Sales Partners. If you do not wish to provide a general release for your Players then Sales Partners of Songrila can contact you through the Songrila system and ask for a release. In such a case you can individually approve or turn down the request of the Sales Partner to put your Players on their homepage. Should you have provided a general release for your Players and are not happy with one of the Sales Partners you can still subsequently withdraw exploitation rights from this individual Sales Partner.

Can I release individual tracks for the Songrila Sales Partner system?
No, currently the release always relates to individual Players. With the release of the Player all the songs in one Player are then are released for one or all Sales Partners (with a general Player release).

What statistics are available? How can I check my sales?
Using the statistics in your Songrila account your can always see the latest figures on how many and which of your songs have been downloaded from which website. It is also possible to see, using the special listing, whether your songs were sold from an album, a special playlist or using your Sales Partners. The statistics are displayed in realtime. In the Start List summary your can also view your personal donwload charts to reveal the popularity of your songs. Songrila also enables you to see which of your tracks are listened to most with the pre-listen function of the Songrila Players and on which websites.

When will I receive royalties from the sales of my songs?
Songrila settles the accounts with holders of rights on a monthly basis. Always at the beginning of the month the statement will be put into your account as pdf document. In addition to your account document you can also download a .csv file with all account-relevant information. Via the menu item Account you can view your account balance in realtime. From a balance of EUR 20 Songrila disburses your royalties.

You will recieve your sales revenues via bank transfer or PayPal.

Why do I receive an error message when trying to upload individual songs?
Songrila sets high standards with regard to the quality of the songs in the Songrila system. To ensure this quality Songrila only permits MP3 files with a bit rate of min. 192 kbit/s CBR or 112-192 kbit/s VBR, a sample rate of 44,100 Hz and the channels Stereo or Joint Stereo. Please check whether the songs you were not able to upload meet the above standards.

How and through whom are the fees of reproduction rights societies (e.g. Gema) settled?
If your tracks are registered with a reproduction rights society you must inform us of this (for each song using the page Process Song). Songrila will take care of the formalities regarding the payment of fees to the reproduction rights societies

Can I buy songs from Songrila Players with my rights holder login?
No, this is not possible due to accounting reasons. If you want to buy songs in Songrila Players as end consumer, then you must have an additional consumer account. You only need one PayPal account which you can use for your artist/band or Label account as well as for your consumer account.

Yes, this is possible. If you require additional price units, please inform us of this using our contact sheet. We will then set up the price units for you as quickly as possible and inform you on the royalties for the desired price units.

What are Sales Partners?
Sales Partners are operators of highly frequented websites who install Songrila Players on their homepages and use these to sell music to their visitors. If a visitor to the website of a Songrila Sales Partner purchases one or several tracks/albums, then the Sales Partner of Songrila receives a percentage of the selling price.

How much commission do I get for sales implemented as Sales Partner?
For each track sold through a Songrila Player on your website Songrila pays three percent of the selling price as commission. Your commission will be credited to your Songrila account. You can follow up all sales through your Player in realtime in your Songrila account. Your commission is paid by Songrila and does not reduce the royalities paid to the artists. A PayPal account is absolutely free and is installed with just a few clicks (if you don't already have one).

When and how is my commission paid to me as Sales Partner?
Songrila remits your commission to your PayPal account as soon as your account shows a balance of over EUR 20. From your PayPal account you can then transfer your earnings to any bank account free of charge. Every month Songrila sends you a statement as pdf-file. You can track your account balance in realtime using your Sales Partner account.

How can I become active as an Sales Partner with Songrila?

To do this, log into your Sales Partner account with Songrila and search Songrila Players with the music you like and the music that suits the visitors to your site. Place the Players in a clearly visible position on your website (on the Start page for example) and start earning straight away with every sale implemented through your Songrila Players.

No, this is not possible at the moment. We are working on this and will make this option available as soon as possible. Currently you can view Players compiled by rights holders according to different music trends and make a selection from these.

How much can I earn as Aggregation Partner of Songrila?
If as Aggregation Partner you convince an artist to register with Songrila as artist/band and the artist/band registers with Songrila through your website, then you receive two percent commission on every sale of the artist through a Songrila Player for a period of two years. Your commission will be credited to your Songrila account. You can follow all sales of the artists you recruited in realtime in your Songrila account. The commission is paid by Songrila and does not come from the royalties paid to the artists.

Songrila remits your earned commission to your PayPal acccount as soon as your account shows a balance of more than EUR 20. You can read your account balance in realtime in your Aggregation Partner account.

What is the difference between Sales Partner and Aggregation Partner?
Sales Partners place Songrila Players on their websites and earn money with every sale that is implemented via the Players placed by them. Aggregation Partners make artists aware of Songrila and subsequently earn through the sales of the artists that have come to Songrila through them and have subsequently registered with us.

Can I benefit as Sales Partner and Aggregation Partner of Songrila at the same time?
Yes, this is possible. However, to do this you need two accounts. If you want to benefit both as Sales Partner as well as Aggregation Partner with Songrila you must register once as Sales Partner and once as Aggregation Partner. You will, however, only need one PayPal-Account.

Can I buy songs from Songrila Players with my Aggregation Partner login?
No, this is not possible due to accounting reasons. If you want to buy songs in Songrila Players as end consumer, then you will need a consumer account as well. You can register as consumer using the following link: https://www.songrila.com/join/consumers/. You will, however, only need one PayPal account which your can use both for your Aggregation Partner and for your Consumer account.
