Excellent groove/melodic instrumental rock/metal
I just discovered Al Joseph--a super-talented guitarist as well as an amazing composer. This album is filled with catchy and groove-driven instrumental music with melodies that ends up stuck in my head. While there's definitely some shred, Joseph shows he cares most about the musicality and melody of his songs and shows restraint in his playing to prioritize great songs and feels rather than just tearing it up all the time. His music stands well on his own but for a frame of reference I'd consider it most closely as melding Satriani + Petrucci. It's more complex than Satriani but definitely has same penchant for melody. It's as sophisticated as Petrucci but probably a bit more accessible to some ears. All the playing is super clean and tight and production is top-notch. Al Joseph should be as well-known as other leaders in this genre as he's most definitely the real deal.
