...everything sounds different ...so do the sonatas.
  • Bad pitch? You're kidding, right?

Let me guess, you also prefer colorized films to those boring old black-and-white ones, right? You do realize that all of the recordings by The Academy of Ancient Music are done using period instruments, and using period TUNING…right? That means that those precious "2 steps" you're missing is how it is SUPPOSED TO SOUND! The modern-day "A" that a modern-day orchestra tunes to is 440Hz. But, in the "olden days" (i.e. Beethoven's time) they tuned to an "A" that was around 415Hz, which puts it significantly lower to our modern ears, but -- and this is the really really important part -- this is how these pieces sounded to the audiences of Beethoven's time. For me, after hearing the Academy's versions (esp. the Beethoven symphonies), I can't stand *any* performance which uses modern instruments/tuning. Knowing that this is how these pieces were supposed to sound makes anything modern sound just awful.
  • Bad sound quality & pitch

A desirable album for classical detesters, but for anyone, like me, that actually listens to the recording quality, the pitch is 2 half steps below what it should be, making it confuse me when I listen. If you like classical or are considering getting this album to hear a recording of any of these pieces, go for the Alfred Brendel recordings.
  • Soothing.

i'm not really big on classical music, but i like piano music. this kind of music just relaxes me. i feel i do better on homework and tests if i listen to classical music. when you have a test and the teacher lets you listen to your ipod you should turn on some classical and i guarantee you get a B or above.
