Dont listen to new version of american pie
The new version of american pie ruins the original version. Other then that, this album is great. One of my favorites.
Do not buy re-recording
The Re-Recording of American Pie is VERY, VERY, VERY BAD. Explains why you have to buy the album to get the original.
Same great song but NOT the version you are used to.
WHY THE HECK IS AMERICAN PIE ALBUM ONLY!!!? :(

I was just a young kid when this song came out, it was one of a kind! Although the essence of the song remains the same and the quality if the re-record is excellent. My only gripe is with the way Don sings the song. It seems as if he's yelling the song, not singing the song as he did in the original version. Too bad they make you buy the album to get 1 or 2 good songs from it.
Don McLean Classics
Beautiful songs by a very talented individual.
American Pie Disaster
By Bikerchick SF
This version of American Pie is worse than the Who's Daltry at Superbowl!! Plus, to get the original version u must buy the whole album. Why doesn't the version I bought on my last ipod transfer to my new ipod?
American Pie (re-recorded in stereo)
The original American Pie was an excellent song. I'm not sure what Don Mclean had in mind when he re-recorded it, but he couldn't have messed a really great song up much worse! All I can say about this version is DON'T BUY IT...IT'S TERRIBLE!
no title- a black & white album cover, Don sitting over a lake.

This album had the song- "oh what a shame". It's not availabe anywhere i can find on iTunes. boohoo!
This album is poison
McLean butchers the second-best song in his career, Vincent, with the re-recording on this album. He does the same with And I Love You So, his best love song. The re-recording of Castles in the Air is actually legitimate (it was released back in 1980, which was an improvement on the original recording a decade earlier.) The original version of American Pie is here, yet you've probably noticed that you have to buy the whole album to get it, but don't worry, there's a butchered re-recording of that classic that you can buy separately here (the original Pie can be bought separately on the Rearview Mirror album.) So aside from Crying, Castles in the Air, the admittedly interesting It's a Beautiful Life, and the original Pie, this album is full of duds, and makes for perhaps the most inadequate entry into his large catalogue of compilation albums. Bear in mind that I'm a genuine Don McLean fan; I've explored the albums that iTunes doesn't provide you, and if you want to see a side of him unjustly not represented by his best-of-albums, then I recommend his criminally underrated self-titled album and his superb live double-album Solo. Or at the very least, you can avoid this album and get The Best of Don McLean which has the original versions of his other classics.
