When I heard DECORATION DAY for the first time I cried. I could picture in my heart and mind the intense sorrow and unfixable feeling of loss John Lee Hooker was telling us. It was as if he was speaking about his life and losses. Each of his songs are very personal baring his soul to the listener. JLH had a profound understanding of the human condition placing his talent and sensitivity to the forefront. He is missed but his being is sustained in the legacy of his musical accomplishments.

If I could meet just one blues guy I would choose John Lee Hooker. Decoration Day is the best blues song I've ever heard and I'm 55 years young. The guys a story teller on top of a great blues musician.

They're correct when they say that there are much, much better sets out there. For the beginning John Lee fan, this does very nicely. But don't stop here. Delve into his other stuff, especially earlier recordings.

Ladies and gentleman, this is all you need. New to John Lee? Already love John Lee? Three words...just buy it! Then listen from beginning to end, gritty, bare bones blues, soft groovin, and some down right a** kickin' roadhouse blues. This one has it all.

Another Electric Hooker... also my first blues album by the king of blues. If you only have one Hooker set, this is the one. By far my favorite!

This album was the first Blues I ever purchased and as a novice to the genre, it was a fantastic place to start. "Never Get Out of These Blues Alive" is a great song featuring Van Morrison. One Bourbon, The Waterfront and Bang are all quality for a new listener. Grab a beverage of choice, turn the lights down and enjoy something you may have never heard.
