A Wonderful Summer treat!
Cool tunes for the summer heat! (ok I bought this in July) I'm not usually a huge fan of the remix/rehash type albums, but I do enjoy Mendes' classic work, and this album revisits many with respect for the original versions. It's all good, but I'm loving having not one, but 2(!) excellent covers of "Waters of March," one of my favorite songs.
Soft Sexy Beat Samba
Favs = Somewhere in the Hills, Look of Love (w/Fergie), Funky Bahia.
Sergio still has it going on! With guests new and old this album is great for just sailin away! Black Eyed Peas fit in perfectly!
Not as good as the original, but Fergie has a great voice and it is in the lines of the classic version.
Bring me to the beach!!
Love this album! I've been listening to Sergio for 30 years and this one album rocks! Summer is coming! Get this album for your backyard parties. I will sure be playing for my pool party in the 4th of July weekend! Bring on the drinks! Relax and dream of the beach!
Every track is on the money
This is a supremely enjoyable album, full of creative twists and turns. The collection is driven by a rich, syncopated Brazilian fusion jazz engine that evokes a lush musical landscape. Each track is wonderfully crafted and expertly executed.
This is an amazing album, better than Timeless, which was also a great album. It's very exciting to see that Sergio Mendes is not only making a come back, but his music is being listened to by different generations and is crossing musical and ethnic boundaries.
The Missing Ingredient
Anyone familiar with the musical legacy of Sergio Mendes and Brazil '66, '77, '88, et al knows what's missing here....more Lani Hall. Due respect to Fergie and Mendes' wife Gracinha Leporace, they just don't bring what only Lani Hall could to this recording. Especially given that her husband, Herb Alpert, performs here with her on the less-than-sterling track, "Dreamer." The two attempts to freshen up "Waters of March" (a song Ms. Hall has previously recorded and which stands up incomparably) are all the more evidence of what this album lacks. If Mendes truly wanted to come "full circle", as he's been quoted as saying during the album's promotion, then putting a microphone in Lani Hall's hand and placing her front and center on a half dozen or so tracks would have made this album feel just like coming home. Without that, it lacks a certain "Encanto."
Ledisi ledisi ledisi!!!!
What a wonderful combination!Sergio and Ledisi!Waters of March has life again just as much passion as the original version!love it!Ledisi does it again.
Feel the heat & the love
You could never thought about ... what can you do with the same songs that had been made over and over and over? Well this is a good example... Sergio Mendes did it again! You can spend a very good afternoon feeling the sound and language, let's dance!
What a fantastic album. It makes me happy just to listen to it.
Sergio definitely still has it!
