I bought this album years ago in the CD form. I've listened to it maybe 50 times(?) Schmalfuss' fingering is precise, and his percussive range is amazing. Piano-Forte, soft -strong, that's it, isn't it? I don't want to get all mushy here, and perhaps I'm projecting, but to me, his playing goes beyond the merely programatic intent of the composer to elicit a sense of the spiritual. Hope you like it as much as I do.
