  • As far as you can go....

This is an amazing album, but not for the musically timid. It is a scary journey. For me, Out of This World is just that: music redefined. From Trane's opening tenor solo, through Elvin's deconstruction of the rhythm (and Trane's simultaneous shift to whole tone scales), to Pharoah's extending of the limits of what a tenor can do-or say, followed by a magnificent Tyner solo (he is NOT inaudible here!) which sets up a majestic entrance for John's soprano, ending with a dual improv by Trane and Pharoah, this is music at the absolute edge. As the previous reviewer mentioned, Kool Aid was consumed for the next day's recording session, but itsounds to me like a double header...

Strange, beautiful. Jimi Hendrix wasn't in Seattle in September of '65, but this music may have drifted into his consiousness somehow. The day after this concert, the band took some "kool-aid" and recorded "OM", the wildest and weirdest "jazz" record ever. Get this one at your own risk. Peace.
