The New EuroPop (Professional Critic)
By The Critic Person
Calvin Harris for nearly three years has been providing "The Industry" with new, cool, and inventive techno-funk. His style combines synth-pop from the 80's, and solid beats from today. But, since this song, we are starting to see a new Calvin Harris. "Flashback" is not only appealing to the ears with spacey, funked-out techno, but also quite similar to David Guetta. Even though Calvin Harris is somewhat "relating" to modern day dance/techno, (more than he has in the past... "I Created Disco" might not have been what the 'moving' image of EuroPop needed), he is still leading that genre, possibly even more than those who have created it, (David Guetta, Justice, TEPR, ect...) We are looking forward to what this rising star has in store for EuroPop. But, if he decides to go "outside" of the boundaries such as he did with "I Created Disco", it might result in good, or bad. Music is always, (As Rihanna said...) as risky as Russian Roulette. Since the most recent album, (which is more of a modern-day techno, opposed to a remake of the 80's techno), has spiked instant fame throughout the globe, all I can say is hopefully Calvin chooses to move the EuroPop (Call it whatever you want) genre, instead of "attempting" to remake something that died over a decade ago. Some or even most people will like the 80's "remake" pop, but to reach higher on the pop charts, he needs to appeal more to the general public, which I believe he is doing successfully with his most recent album, and this song...
From one professional to another: Great move Calvin!
