Two of the songs won’t play Yellow Submarine and Got to Get you into My Life. If this cannot be fixed I want my money back for the entire album.

The Beatles have many classic albums but if I had to pick one, I’d pick Revolver. Beatle George Harrison said he sees it as almost a double album with its predecessor, Rubber Soul. (Rubber Soul broke the Beatles into a new level of songwriting; instead of she loves you, or I love you, they started to write more interesting and complex lyrics, and the music became more....round.. On Rubber Soul they were influenced by Dylan’s lyrics but with the Beatles gift for melody. Plus, on Rubber Soul they were deep into weed for the first time, which sent them to a more creative place). Revolver is more of the same but they had started to use LSD at the time, and the music gets more experimental and breaks even more with the old Rock and Roll formula. I mean just listen to Tomorrow Never Knows! It’s so out there and amazing. Revolver is positive, fun and creative. There’s something to be said for what followed (Sgt Peppers, which takes Revolver one step further but which, to me, didn’t age as well as Revolver. Sgt Pepper’s was revolutionary in its time but doesn’t sound so, now, to me. Probably cause it’s more Paul than John. Revolver is more balanced (Psychedelic John’s She Said She Said and Tomorrow Never Knows, Paul’s sunshine-infused and beautiful Good Day Sunshine and Got to Get You Into My Life and George flexing his songwriting muscles (Taxman). Magical Mystery Tour is very psychedelic — more John than Paul, worth checking out. The White Album, as producer George Martin said, would have been a wildly classic single album but as a double album it’s very uneven. I think some B-level songs were included. Abbey Road, I’ve heard too many times to enjoy). Revolver is a sonic portrait of pros coming into their prime. It bursts with joy, fun youth, power and discovery. Hard to say it, but probably the best Beatles album. (My second best: Magical Mystery Tour)

I still remember placing the needle down on this for the first time in August, 1966. The Beatles were playing their second to last concert in the U.S. (Dodger Stadium) and getting Revolver was my consulation for not being able to go. What a gift. It still sounds fresh to me today. We will never again see the likes of The Beatles but their music and legacy will endure thanks (IMHO) to this album and Rubber Soul.
