Its like the other guy said, this is the origins of one of the greatest bands to ever play on this planet! I love hearing the Beatles anyways, but to hear the doo-wop of the pre-Sgt. Pepper's days is truly amazing! Definitely worth the listen!

Anthology 1 is a heaping helping of Beatles awesomeness. In a nutshell, the 3 anthology compilations cover anything that (for any reason) they couldn't put on the studio albums. Ranging from old Quarryman recordings, to Alternate versions of Beatles hits, to John Lennon demos that the other Beatles added to. Some of the songs have bad audio quality, but that only adds to the beauty of the songs. It feels like a real Privilege to be able to hear these hidden gems, and I recommend them to any fans of the Beatles.

I have this album on a cd and I love it. Y favorite tracks are "Like Dreamers Do", "In Spite of All the Danger", and "Hallelujah (I Love Her So)". Definetly should get this if you're a Beatles fan.

It's so cool to listen to the origins of what was to become the greatest band of all time!! It's amazing to here them, and even Brian talk. And did anybody else notice that number 4 is the same song they record at the end of the movie Nowhere Boy?? :)

Well, the Beatles are here for everyone to see. On this page, we have the first Beatles Anthology album, which shows us what the band's music sounded like in the early years from the first recordings made in Liverpool in 1958 to the band's rise to worldwide fame in 1964. This is filled with rarities, demos, outtakes, and alternate versions of songs already released with a new song, "Free As A Bird," which starts off the album. There are some songs that the Beatles recorded before Ringo joined the band, like Buddy Holly's "That'll Be The Day" and "Cry For A Shadow" with bits of interviewing from John and Paul inserted in between. Brian Epstein, the Beatles' manager, also reads excerpts from his autobiography, A Cellarful of Noise, to describe the relationship he had with the members of the band. Stu Sutcliffe plays bass on a few songs recorded at Paul's house in 1960. A couple of the songs were from when the Beatles played in Hamburg, especially their version of "My Bonnie" where they back Tony Sheridan singing. This has the earliest version of "Love Me Do," featuring Pete Best on drums, done at the Beatles' first recording session for EMI on June 6, 1962 before they did 2 remakes of it 3 months later. Listen to Paul sing "Besame Mucho." Another song worth hearing is "How Do You Do It?," a song written by Mitch Murray that George Martin wanted the Beatles to release as their first single before the band decided on "Love Me Do" instead. This was recorded at their second session with Ringo now playing drums. Five of the live songs were recorded on tour in Sweden. The other live songs were from performing on TV. Three of the songs were part of the Royal Command Performance on Nov. 4, 1963 and 4 songs were from a TV special called Around the Beatles, including "I Wanna Be Your Man" and the Isley Brothers' "Shout." Also, the live version of "All My Loving" is the opening number from the Beatles' first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. A take of "No Reply" is a guide for the recording that would end up on Beatles For Sale and there is a completely different version of "Eight Days A Week" with new harmonies used at the beginning and end of the song. With these songs on Anthology 1, you can hear what the Beatles' music was like by going through the band's rock, pop, and R&B roots as they would combine all these interests when writing songs of their own. Great album and I think anyone should buy this if they are curious to know what the Beatles were like up to the time they became international superstars.
