Reviews

  • Much too hastily played

I am disappointed by this version of the "1812 Overture". Both the intro and the ending (especially the last cannonade and the descending cresendo leading up to the triumph) is much too hastily played. Both sections should be played slowly, reverently, in order to magnify and prolong the emotion of the work. Also, the cannons sound flat, like someone was hitting a hollow, upturned 55-gallon drum. Suggest looking for another version of this masterwork, as I am.
