Where is the bass???
This would have been the best album in Metallica’s catalog if not for the fact that the bass was intentionally mixed down to the point of being inaudible.
The song writing is excellent but I can’t get past the missing bass.
Would gladly pay for the versions floating around online with enhanced basslines.

Hands down the best Metallica album ever.

I think this is one of Metallica's BEST albums. Yes, the songs might be a little long at times but the overall musicianship is outstanding. Their songs run the gamut of full throttle head-banging to intricate instrumental and some songs mix up both very well. This is so much better than the junk they are producing now. Every song on this album is solid!!!
Fantastic but not Fragile

This is an amazing album, but I highly doubt that YES would blush.
I'm sure Chris Squire and Cliff Burton are having a bass-off in the sky, right now, but c'mon, Metallica, don't compare yourself to YES - the world's first true Prog band. Until you can play Roundabout the way they played it last year at the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, with Rush's G. Lee playing bass, you're just standing in the shadow of another.
Stop comparing yourselves to other bands, and just be yourselves. You've had 35 years to BE Metallica. It's time to stop comparing yourselves to other bands like Yes and Lynyrd Skynyrd, guys. Just be METALLICA.
Preferably the Metallica that existed between 1983 and 1993, if possible.
Now, hurry up and remaster this album, and the Black Album. Thanks, gang!
This is real talent
Still my fave
This album still rocks...calling shenanigans on the explicit lyrics label though! One song with one word! Why all the “E’s”??? 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Saw them perform this in concert when they toured Justice for All.
I love it
The best album!
This one is truly at the peak of their creative pinnacle. This is their Pièce de résistance!!!! Love it!
