Reviews

  • Still the best in metal

It doesn't matter that the earlier albums were more thrasher because these songs are amazing and Metallica just matured into a better sound on this album. It's excellent and I can listen to every song and barely pick a best although I do love Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman quite a bit.

When Metallica truly lost touch with what made the first 3 albums so epic. The iTunes review says it all…”...guaranteed the mtv airtime and radio airplay that had eluded them in the past…”. Yup, thats the sign of a great album. You have got to be shitting me. There is some decent songwriting here but thats about it. Theres just no meat to it…it sounds like a generic attempt at metal meant to appeal to the masses. Absolute opposite of albums like Kill ‘Em All or ROL. It brought in the money alright. And years of of a continuing slip into selling out.

What can I say about the Black Album that hasn't been said! Yeah it wasn't the Metallica from the 80's but that was the point! And Enter Sandman is an all time song and video! By all Means listen to this classic rock album!

And yes!!! Much like a huge majority, I think Metallica's first 3 albums are stellar. This album still rocks!!! Sure, it's a HUGE departure from their early sound. However, if you look at how far Metallica has come and the success they have had as a band, it's in large part because they took chances and a band must evolve if they will grow as artists and an artist can't just keep painting from the same pallet. Otherwise, they become boring and predictable. I had my skepticisms when this album first came out, but the songs really grow on you. It's a great album and one of their most successful selling albums. 16 million sold!! 16 x platinum!!! That is 16 million people who bought, listen to and love this album. One of the highest selling albums of all time. Just saying.
