I seriously thought they'd redeem themselves after the embarrassment of the load

This album is horrible! 3 songs are so-so at best.. Load is not much better, but it is better.

I have been with Metallica since the beginning.I have a mixed feelings about this.It is not bad album. But it is not great either and with Metallica I am used to perfection. This album has 3 very good songs but also a few bad ones thats why the rate is 3 stars. This is not metal but good hard rock.It is definitely better than Load and St Anger which is the worst album.

Metallica was really going for a more commercial album, and to me it just was a really sub par album. I totally respect anyone who likes this album, and Metallica is truly my favorite band ever. But this album was just not them. In my opinion.

People will argue the fact that this is not original coming from Metallica, all bands have different periods in they're careers where they experiment with new sounds, arrangements and styles. Personally, if a band wants to do these things, well that's a good thing because generally that's were a band learns and gets better at the craft of making music, which by the way is art.

Over the years, this album grew on me. It is just an average album still. Nowhere near their first 5 albums but it's different and has its own unique sound. "Fuel" is a very good mainstream song that can be liked by any music listeners. Most of the songs off load and reload are still crappy, but like I said different is good. It provides a different sound and some songs on this album are pretty good.

I think Load is better, but this isn't too far away from it. Fuel, Memory Remains, Devil's Dance, Unforgiven II, maybe Slither, Carpe Diem Baby, Where the Wild Things Are, and Low Man's Lyric are my favorites.
