  • The best session drummer of all time

Whether you prefer to listen to rock or other genres of music. One drummer immediately pops into your headphones and that is Jeff Porcaro. Give a listen to Rosanna or Africa and you'll understand why. So many different artists literally sought him out for recording sessions. Also must not forget that he was the backbeat behind the success of the Grammy winning 80's rock group Toto. Now that I have my I pad that means I can go to the You tube web site and watch video clips of Jeff Porcaro in action . Rest in peace and please continue to appear in my dreams playing drums on my heartstrings forever and ever .

For those of you who are younger and don't know, Steely Dan was on the absolute cutting edge of high definition, superb sound reproduction on vinyl, in the 70's. Look for their vinyl records now, and you'll see. Buy them. They are worth it. Even if the music is less to your taste, the sound experience will get to you. This remastered album is the clearest and finest thing to the vinyl versions I have experienced. Oh, bravo. And. Saddest and fondest farewells to Walter Becker. Oh, this hurts. What he might still have done ... Sent from my iPhone

I have bought every version of the Steely Dan recordings from the time I was in junior high. The songs have that unique jazz-rock sound with a sophisticated sound. The lyrics have a subtle humor and a little mystery. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, the combination is true art.
  • Too many good songs for a 'Best of'

The Caves of Almatira? The Fez?! I mean, there are just so many iconic songs... One 'Best of' just can't cover all the hreat hits of Steely Dan. 'A' for effort though :)

I thought everything was great until I started thinking PEG just didn't sound right. So I listened to the AJA version and **totally noticeable difference,** they turned down the bass and basically ruined the track. So I bought both, big deal. MeehhhhGG! (Family guy)

  • A Soundtrack of the 70s

Being a child of the 70s these songs were a strong backdrop for growing up in that era as much as anything else. That's actually saying something when you consider the sheer amount of bands & artists churning out great music then. The best thing about Steely Dan besides the superb musicianship is that musically there's something for everybodyโ€ฆ Great guitar, jazzy/funky beats & bass rhythms, horns and of course Fagen's sardonic lyrical delivery. This is a great sampling but there are so many more gems on the albumsโ€ฆ Dirty Work, Black Cow, Josie, Don't Take Me Alive etc.

An album you never tire of listening to. Incredible arrangements and lyrics combine to form some of the best music of the 70's, or any era for that matter. Fagan and Becker are musical geniuses, even if they aren't physical beauties. Rock on Steely Dan. If you wonder about the band's name derivation, research it. Pretty funny!

I can remember listening to a low wattage FM station and this is what I was listening to. Even today I have this on my iPhone and Nano. I can put on this ALBUM all the way from start to finish.
