  • This album showcases his brilliance

His songwriting was, for lack of a better term, undermined by the influence of Truckers as a band. He had the ability to truly showcase his skills since then and to me this was his best effort. The difficult topics like Yvette are graced with passion and leave you spell bound. What a great album!!
  • One of the best albums ever. Timeless, brilliant.

This album will be a classic for decades. A songwriters clinic, and a players woodshed workbook. Epic.

I have had this album for awhile, but never took the time to write a review. I love every song on this album. I listen to it all the time. One of the best musicians in the modern era, period.

I first learned of Jason Isbell from his podcast interview with Marc Maron and was immediately intrigued by him, his story, and his talent. The intrigue was obviously not strong enough for me to do anything other than file him under "to be checked out at a later time." A friend reminded me of Isbell a month or two ago and I began listening to some of his library available on Spotify. I was drawn to the music and lyrics of "Southeastern" which exemplify raw art. Every track from the upbeat "Super 8" to the affecting "Elephant" exudes a kind of honesty and vulnerability. Isbell creates characters and stories with his music that doesn't leave you. His turn of phrase with the compelling vocal and musical accompaniment linger in my consciousness and deepens my love for music. Buy this album now.
