My one-star review is not against the classic soundtrack, but against the powers-that-be who do not allow individual purchases of tracks.
iTunes, I do believe you are losing money on this album. I'm not paying over $9.00 for "Flying Dreams", but I (and, I suspect many other people) would gladly pay the standard price for an individual track.
Stars for the album
...not for "album only" capitalist BS.
Probably one of the most under appreciated movie soundtracks of all time.
Fantastic Original Soundtrack!
I have an original 1994 CD copy of The Secret of NIMH's original soundtrack. If you loved the film, you'll love the soundtrack as well.
Once again ...
I loved this movie and was willing to buy 3 songs off of this album, but once again I will point out iTunes, that you are loosing money by not allowing individual purchases.
Why not individual songs?
I hate it when they try to make you buy the whole album when all you really want is one song! Wasn't that why we all originally liked iTunes and all the other online music sites?
Sorry, Apple...I'll keep my $10.
Don't get me wrong...loved the movie but I really don't want all the instrumental songs...just flying away (particularly the version with Paul Williams). I'm willing to buy the song, just not the whole album to get it.
C'mon, iTunes, get with the program! Would you rather have $0 or $0.99?
I'm a kid again
I LOVE this movie!! Easily one of my favorite movies ever. Its a sweet story with a wonderful story line of hope, family and dedication, and if it throws in a little political statement about animal testing thats just fine with me. The music just adds to the emotion and I love "Flying Dreams". Give me this movie, a grilled cheese sandwich and some tomato soup and I'm instantly 10 again, curled up on the couch on a Saturday afternoon with my dad
A must buy/download
I like the movie and consider it one of the best ever made (Don Bluth rocks :P ). But what is a great movie without great music? Well... not that great. Star Wars wasn't really liked by critics until John Williams put his score in(after that everyone started to like it). John Williams' score to NIMH could and SHOULD be compared to Star Wars soundtrack, simply because it is THAT good. John really liked NIMH and devoted a lot of time making the music (he even spent a few extra days polishing it after the contract ended). His personal opinion is that this score is among the greatest things he ever done. And if Mr. Williams himself liked it, then you should too. I have it on vinyl and enjoy listening to it every time. P.S. It was performed by The National Philharmonic Orchestra of London, and that is saying a lot too.
One of the greatest cartoons ever!
I loved this movie! you just don't see cartoons like this anymore. The music is also fantastic but I wish you could buy "Flying Dreams" without having to purchase the entire album.
Eerie, Sophisticated, and Thought Provoking
This film was my favorite movie as a child. I never realized how moving the music was! Truly a great work of art by Goldsmith. The arrangements with chorus and instruments are eerie at times, but truly brings this particular film to life. A complicated work that keeps your thoughts in motion. A must have for the connoisseur of classical music. Enjoy!
