  • Delightful Christmas Collection

    By K from Seattle
Ella's beautiful, clear voice shines in this timeless collection of Christmas songs. It is almost unbelievable that this was recorded 50 years ago, because it could be a contemporary jazz Christmas album in terms of the arrangements. And what a value -- 18 songs for $7.99! If you're looking for a real treat, buy this album and enjoy it this holiday season. You will not be disappointed! Ella is peerless.
  • Oh, Ella...

I <3 THIS ALBUM. it makes me warm and fuzzy inside. and its not overdone and "pop"-y like most of todays christmas music. it WILL NEVER GET OLD. AHH.
  • A year-round favorite!

I don't care for Christmas music as a whole, but I do love Ella Fitzgerald. There's something in her voice that makes these songs listenable long after the holidays are over.
  • This Is How Christmas Is Done

Lighthearted and spirited, this is Ella's first Christmas album and it focuses on the jubilant side of the hoilday season. Ella recorded secular songs for this cd (lp) and her second album of holiday songs "Ella Fitzgerald's Christmas" recorded for Capital was non-secular and somber. Originally released on cd in 1989 this version, complete with alternate takes and singles, was remastered with 24-bit technology and released with the original album artwork in 2002. The production is a bit of a departure, Ella was supported by quartet and a backing vocal group instead of the usual string arrangements one would expect from a holiday album. All the arrangements swing, the bonus tracks do depart from the tempo and the closing song, an alt take of "Frosty The Snowman" was recorded to waste time during a session, Ella sang this take with a little girl voice and after the first listen it becomes a bit annoying.
