Jerry Goldsmith's score for ALIEN is probably my favorite score. I can't think of a soundtrack more beautiful, haunting, and solemn.
The "Main Title" encompasses the DNA of the last three categories, and underscores the questioning unknown and romanticism of the cosmos. "The Landing" highlights the sheer beauty in horror, as comforting music plays when the Nostromo lands on the Alien Planet (LV-426). "Acid Test" observes the genetic code of an extra-terrestrial, especially the Xenomorph.
I would recommend this score to anyone, and even though the soundtrack is not complete, it's absolutely brilliant even without "Hypersleep."
