Four and one-half years after finding this, it's still something I watch almost monthly. Great for the Class of 1963--greatly received by high school students today: universal emotions across space AND time.

Some of the greatest performers, with stories we'll never know, sing and play their hearts out on the streets of cities all over the world. I've heard them in San Francisco, Boston, Miami, Paris and many others. Some are self taught, others have had formal training. Either way, their talents and exacting performances are often inspiring and amazing. I am given to pause and ask myself, "Why is this gifted person out on the street?" Why aren't these people performing at least in respectable local clubs where they can make some decent money, get off the heartless streets and be safe? As a person who was a musician many years ago, I cannot pass them without putting something in one's open guitar case or in their "tip jar" paper cup. They're not looking for every passerby to give them a buck or two, though they really could use it. They love it if you stand by and listen, watch their performance and show your appreciation with a smile and brief applause. All of us need approval from time to time, to feel part of the greater family of man. If you don't have even a quarter next time you come upon one of them, then just say a kind word as you look them in the eye and smile. If you have a couple of dollars, especially if you've been a musician, and you don't leave something, to me, you're losing something of yourself and maybe filching someone's music. Real Mario

It's so wonderful seeing the whole world connected through a microphone. I'm so glad to find that there are still people out there devoted to music that doesn't need to be sexual or street, but just soulful. After listening to this, I felt so good, peaceful and full of purpose. This video woke me up to the big picture, that yes, we aren't alone, and yes, we can all become closer through the universal language: MUSIC :)
