  • Genius music and video

First time I heard this on the radio, I thought "Wow, Sting has a great song here!" The lyrics and feeling in the song are heartfelt, and bring you through his heartache and feeling of injustice. Then Kimbra chimes in and you see there's two sides to the story. That took me way back, to Stevie Wonder's amazing "Ordinary Pain" on "Songs in the Key of Life" where, as in this song, you get his story first and feel like you know the situation. Then she tells her side... The video for "Somebody That I Used To Know" expands on the story in a way that lets you see and feel her frustration and rage. That, together with the amazing art direction, makes for a video that makes a great song even better.

Not many people like this song yet they leave no room for imagination, this is out of the ordinary and artistic.

This song definitely touch's home. Anybody that has ever been in love and it ended in a broken relationship can relate totally to the lyrics of this masterpiece. I am anxiously awaiting for the next big hit by this awesome group. Once again I am in a drunken stupor trying to tame my artistic delima.
  • Haunting and beautiful

Hauntingly transfixing and beautiful melody. Gotye and Kimbra form a perfect tension of passionate longing and bittersweet regret. She is astonishingly beautiful both in song and body language. The artistry is something to behold. A tender catharsis overall. Thank you for putting such care into this work of art!
  • How did this ever become popular?

Really strange song, makes me cringe. Labelling this one under "when pop culture tries to go all indie and fails miserably"

What is the connection of the drawings on the wall and the song? It's a good song but the video doesn't make any sense. I also found myself staring at his mouth, his mouth is soooo distracting!
